Dr. Karl Arnstein, designer of the airships Akron and Macon and the airdock at Goodyear's former Aerospace subsidiary, stands a safe distance behind his wife as she christens the Mayflower on May 22, 1929. The 1924 transfer of all Zeppelin patents brought virtually all the world's experience to the United States, and the following year, Dr. Arnstein and a dozen of his principal assistants emigrated to the United States, transferring a wealth of lighter-than- air technical expertise to Goodyear.
